NY Bucket List - AMNH, check!

First item checked off our bucket list was the American Museum of Natural History!  It was supposed to rain all day and to prepare for our commute in the rain makes everything more difficult.  Not only did I have to learn to stuff my bugaboo with the proper daily essentials for this little chica, but now I have to make sure I'm prepared for a rainstorm.  I definitely won't miss getting caught in rainstorms while trying to hail a cab with the baby and all.  There's one thing to look forward to with suburban life.

The museum was crowded with tourists and children out of school for the summer.  My lil lulu was quite fascinated by all the animals and dinosaur fossils, and it makes me sad to think she won't even remember these New York moments.

One item down, and many more to go!  The remaining items on my NYC bucket list are as follows, in no particular order:

1. Peter Luger
2. BONDST sushi
3. Hotel Chantelle brunch
4. Momofuku Noodle Bar or Ippudo for ramen and pork buns!
5. Dinosaur BBQ (I've wanted to go here since I moved to the city)
6. Cafe Gitane
7. Parisi Sandwich
8. Hybird
9. Central Park Carousel & Zoo
10. FAO Schwartz
11. MOMA
12. Met
13. Staten Island Ferry
14. Statue of Liberty
15. Walk the Brooklyn bridge
16. World Trade Memorial

Wish me luck, we are at T minus 18 days!  Awww, now I'm starting to get sad....til next time. xo, B

The normal grind of carrying the stroller down the subway stairs.  Power to the mamas out there that can barrel up and down the stairs holding the stroller and kid in all.

She loves people watching on the subway...so do I!

It's About to Go Down...

If you look close enough, you can see my hubby and lulu walking across Times Square

Ok ok ok...It's going on almost two years since my last post!  I know it's probably like, whoa, why come back now?  Well, it's bitter sweet, but it has come time for me to leave this concrete jungle that I have called home for the past decade.  Obviously change is constant, but my life has pretty much given me whip lash with all that has happened in two years.

I've loved every New York minute, and I truly believe that it has kept me and everyone here feeling young.  With the continuous evolution of all the restaurants, bars and shopping, the only way to keep up with the city is to accept and transform with it.  Kill or be killed.  When I moved here back in 2003(!) I was a baby fresh out of college trying to find my way into the fashion industry.  It was so glitter and glam looking in from the outside, but hindsight is 20/20.  I've learned to deal with the colorful people that are the fashion industry while getting put in check quite a few times.  But, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.  Ok, enough of these played out metaphors.  Yeah, I had to learn to shove my way onto the packed subways, while making no eye contact with the person standing so close that I can smell their breath.  Learning to be loud and assertive ordering a deli sandwich at the bodega, because believe me, the guy behind the counter won't wait for you to make up your mind or ask questions.  So yeah, after a decade of living here, New York has engrained amplified social and professional skills in me that make living outside of NYC seem easy breezy.

So what all has changed...?  I found out I was pregnant, pretty much right after my last Moda Suki post.  My then boyfriend of almost 7 years proposed and we got married, and the perfect curly haired baby girl came the Summer of 2012.  So, right now, I am trying to pack up my life for our upcoming move to California, the OC!  It's officially T minus 22 days and I'm putting together my bucket list for all that I want to eat, see and buy, all while planning my lil' lulu's 1st birthday.  And what better way to share it all than to blog it like the good ol' days.

Go Blue!

Life has finally slowed for a hot sec for me to actually surf the blogosphere. As I was catching up, I found this awesome pic from the Sartorialist...so Michigan chic! I totes am getting a tank from Moe's asap and rocking it! If you don't know, now you know...GO BLUE! xo, B

Mr. B

I'm sweating these cool oxfords I found out at... Aldo! Cray I know...not my normal steez, but the leather is really nice, and I just went on a lunch date with them. They are Aldo's Mr. B collection...not really sure what that means. But, the construction is solid, but they were a tad big, and they didn't have my size. I'm debating on hoofing it to 34th street after work to scoop up these bad boys. My obsession is ridic when I have my mind made up...I can't even wait to order them online...I NEED them now! ha To be continued...xo, B

Memories

Random, YES...Totally practical and cool, OBVI! Just perusing the O site, and found this old article done on interior designer Peri Wolfman. She divulges her organizational secrets...nothing amaze, but completely chic. It was one of my new years resolutions to frame and take more pics...and this is a fab way to do it! It's all about the memories...xo, B

(oh yeah, and I missed you guys...mwah!!)

LA Prepster

The pic is not so great, but wanted to throw up my lunchtime purchases. I stopped by Uniqlo, which has become a place I frequent less and less these days...I think I overdosed on them for a bit. I found this great sweater jacket with awesome texture and gold buttons, a bit Chanel wannabe, and thought it would be great with my new thin tee from Brandy Melville. Can't wait to rock it out with some great dark denim flares! xo, B
My new gym tee from Brandy Melville...yes a little cheapie store, but love the fit...I'm def going to wear it out too, duh.

Love how tissue this it is!

Uniqlo wannabe Chanel sweater, great Springtime staple.

Great high waisted flares for summer by MiH found on Shopbop.

MAC - Wonder Woman

So I'm totes slow on my roll with this...Wonder Woman for MAC... simply amazeballs. After looking for a hot color for the MJ Collection Show tonight, I found that MAC was doing another capsule collection featuring Wonder Woman on lipsticks, powders, mascara etc...I immediately had to do some lunchtime shopping! I ended up getting "Russian Red" which is hot hot hot. Can't wait to bust out this lipstick, I feel empowered with this, lol...xo, B
I have to save the packaging too!

So cute!

Check the little red star on the gold case!

Fashion Popo

Spotted, Fashion Police in Soho...not sure what this is for, but the "Fashion Force" police like car was driving around Soho today. Totally random...but of course the Fashion Police would be riding in a Benz. Lol...xo, B

Bill Cunningham New York

Last night's press screening of the Bill Cunningham New York documentary left me completely enthralled by the simple and detached life this 80 year old fashion photog lives within the pretentious world of NYC. The further the movie progressed, the more and more I began to love him. The small details of him wearing a blue workers smock to the bougie social gatherings of NY to his conclusion that obviously he's "not intesterested in celebrities with their free dresses, [he's] interested in clothes." Straight to the point...his modest point of view is logical and relatable. He prides himself on not being wasteful, only possessing a few shirts and living in a tiny space filled with filing cabinets archiving his work. He lives, and lets live, he treats everyone equally while rubbing shoulders with some of the most powerful people in NY. I absolutely loved this movie and Bill is definitely a wise old soul. If only there were more Bill's in the world, our world would be a better place. Love love love...definitely a Go See! xo, B

Celine Spring 2011

Yes, I'm slow on my roll, but had to put up Celine's Spring 2011 Ad shots by Juergen Teller because they're freaking amazeballs! And of course Daria Werbowy is totally gorg...but it's the skateboard and big cheeky sunglasses that does it for me! And if you notice the knotted cuff Daria is wearing in the pic above...obsessed! For some reason ever since my mom gave me a gold love knot necklace back in the day, I've always loved knots in jewelry. But this bad boy is $280...ummm probs not...I bet it's not even real gold. But still obsessed with the Celine pics...LOVES! xo, B

Mitsuwa Time

Mini roadtrip to Edgewater, NJ to visit Mitsuwa, the Japanese grocery store/food court. It was packed...and I mean, we circled the parking lot for like half an hour scouring for a parking spot. But, it was all worth the wait. As per my bro's girlfriend, we immediately got in line at the Ramen station which was a 45 min for your food! So an expert as she is at this...she instructed us to now grocery shop as our food was prepared. Which we did...and I ended up with a boat load of groceries...all types of Japanese munchies which I neglected to photograph...boo. After we got our Ramen we then had to search for a table to eat at which I hustled for...stalking an innocent family as they finished up their meal. We also got more food at another food vendor, this time more comfort food types with Egg Rice, a hamburger patty and chilli sauce, and seafood in chilli sauce...all good, and amazeballs on a cold winter day. I had to be rolled out of there I was so full...the food and journey out to Jersey was definitely a fun weekend outing. Til next time, xo, B

The Pan American

Lunch with my work peeps at the newly opened restaurant, The Pan American. American food with a spanish flair...but I was more excited for the option of drinks at happy hour prices during the day! Our waitress even let us taste the frozen mojito and frozen lemon drop...the frozen mojito was good with a nice taste of mint, but there was no way I was ordering a frozen drink in 20 degree weather! I have already returned to this spot for guac and drinks...yum! So for lunch, I had the churrasco steak sandwich...I give a 5 out of 10...the steak was good but the bread was so thick and hard it threw off the overall sandwich. Nice new spot, with good basics for a group of peeps to agree on. I'll be back...xo, B

My not so amazing sandwhich...but I took the steak and smothered it with guac...which was brillz on my part! lol

Groovy Sunnies

Just spotted these groovy massive sunnies by Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony on shopbop. Love them...just a bit concerned with my already round shaped face, that these will look a bit too round. For the hefty price of $390, they definitely have to be tried on before purchasing. They remind of Kate Hudson's character in the movie Almost Famous...such a goodie! Loves...xo, B

Happy Birthday Coops!

It's my boo boo's 4th birthday! Cooper had a fun filled day coming to work with me, and getting cupcakes from the Little Cupcake Bakeshop. I actually didn't have one, since I'm getting over this cold, I can't really taste anything. But, I heard they were so so...so no promotion here. Anyways...Happy Birthday Cooper! Now it's off to cook him his steak dinner. xo, B

Yes, I'm still searching

For those of you that were reading a year ago...I posted about my Grandma's cool shoes from back in the day. Well, I'm still hunting for ones like them, and this time I think I got them right! Shopbop has these sick K. Jacques cork sandals with a great city-walkable wedge and chic tan leather straps...the only downside is the price. I'll probably splurge in summer for these because I def think these are worth it, not saying that it won't hurt a bit to do so, but it's all in the name of Spring chic. Dreaming of warm weather...xo, B

Crushing on Nicole Richie's Ish

This image of Nicole Richie's Chanel bag, pink sunnies and Alexander McQueen scarf stuck with me...I just love everything about it. The pic is from her Lucky mag shoot...she's the cutest celeb mommy for sure. And randomly, I had been crushing on this MJ Julie bag (pictured below), which closely resembles the lovely Chanel. They're both classic, if only you could order a "pre-loved" option on the bag, so the leather comes pre-squishy and yummy. Random thoughts...xo, B

Yummy New Bedding

Bedding has been on my mind for a while now, I would scour the different sites looking for something that would entice me. It was time to redo my tired old bed, especially because as you can see from the pic above of Cooper digging in it, my bed gets a lot of wear and tear! I decided on the Home Kissing Pleat Duvet Set in Cafe Latte from Target, along with these awesome silver pillow cases from West Elm (love the satiny texture), and another Target purchse, the Dwell Studio damask pillow. The damsk pillow was actually one I had on my couch, and I was looking for a furry pillow to add to my bed, but realized how perfect the damask matched...so voila...my bed is complete. Love the different textures...and love how the colors tie into to the silver damask decals I have on my wall. So funny to think how much thought goes into obsessing over bedding, lol...xo, B
